It’s October 1st,y’all! First, I need you all to know it’s my birthday month! YAY! Second, welcome to the time of year all of us fall fanatics can finally support all things pumpkin and be less judged. 😉
For many of you, you’re gearing up to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I’ve seen employees wearing pink ribbons. On my run last night, a neighbor was hanging a large flag and two smaller flags off the back of his jeep. I couldn’t help but cringe at the hurt of loss I know so well and smile at his efforts to bring awareness. Did he lose someone too? What was their journey like? I’m truly sorry if this time of year is extremely personal and hits home way more than it does others.
As stated yesterday, October is also Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. How have I never heard of this before now? I know I was trying to be naïve because I was scared of that way of life actually becoming a reality. (Go figure.) After all, it is every moms worst nightmare and I’m human. Was I possibly even minimizing others pain because I didn’t want to try and understand their indescribable pain?

A little crazy history for you. According to Wikipedia (so it must be true, right?!), American President Ronald Regan declared October Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month on…take a guess. Yup. My Birthday. October 25,1988. I had to pick my mouth up when I read that and then chuckle at the irony. I see you, God.

I think too many suffer in silence. Don’t you? So starting today and everyday this month, I’ll be wearing a pink and blue ribbon lapel pin.
